About Jazz Connection
Launched in March 2007 Jazz Connection has established itself as a relaxed and informal night out in Headingley. Past guests at our Spring and Autumn seasons include: Louise Gibbs, Nicki Allan, Don Donnelly, Laura Fowles, Jon Taylor, Richard Ormrod, GHQ, Panjumby and Cherie Gears.
We have also given opportunities to a number of exciting new talents on the jazz scene.
Lynn Thornton
Having listened to lots of live jazz, I started to sing jazz at the Leeds College of Music Jazz Vocal Summer School. My vocal style has been developed through further courses, singers' nights and tuition from Louise Gibbs. I love to improvise and scat and enjoy working in the moment with other musicians to interpret jazz standards, latin favourites and to put a jazz twist to songs from other genres. I've also sung with Dales Jam, an improvising jazz orchestra.
Joanna Lesley
I developed my love of Jazz with tuition from the support of singers' nights and from attending many vocal and improvisation workshops, Joanna enjoys scat singing and improvisation as well as many jazz and latin standards.
Jazz standards always prove a popular choice in my regular gigs in Day centres and Nursing homes in the area.
